We glorify God by making disciples and multiplying churches in Greater Washington, D.C. Much of our disciple-making in the D.C. area occurs through our members’ personal witness in their offices, schools, and neighborhoods. But we also unite together in structured outreach to make disciples and multiply churches in our communities.
Each year, MBC facilitates four major structured outreaches. At the start of the fall, we join together for Back to School Outreach. In the winter, we make a major outreach push at Christmas time, and in the spring, we do the same for Easter. In the summer, we scatter, many of our members going overseas to serve as short-term missionaries and others staying here to lead local outreaches, like Vacation Bible Schools in Title I communities.
We focus much of our structured outreach in the communities of Title I schools, which often have especially urgent spiritual and physical needs. First, we provide for physical needs in various ways (like distributing food and clothing or teaching English), attaching the Gospel at every opportunity. In 2019, we distributed approximately 325,000 meals to 12,000 families and 4,300 backpacks to students at under-resourced schools.
As we meet needs in Title I communities, we gather all who are interested into Bible studies and children’s ministries to provide discipleship. Finally, as the Lord leads, we strive to plant one or more churches in the community in partnership with our church-planting network, New City Network.
We understand that we can’t meaningfully make disciples in a community if we’re only there a few times a year, so we maintain an ongoing presence in several Title I communities. The Local Outreach team works closely with our Regional Leadership Teams and Young Adult Ministry, and there’s rarely a weekend when we’re not doing something in a Title I community. We’d love to have you join us. Please fill out our Interest Form.
In pursuit of church multiplication, we partner closely with New City Network (NCN) to train and mobilize church planters in the D.C. area and among all nations. We praise God for over 55 churches planted so far in D.C. and around the world through this partnership.
We understand that God’s purpose for D.C. and the nations is not just for MBC to grow larger and larger but for hundreds of thousands of churches to make disciples and multiply. That’s why we partner with the North American Mission Board (NAMB) through NCN to plant like-minded and like-hearted churches all over D.C. and among all nations.
We’re proud to have over 100 nations represented at MBC. Congregants from several of these nations have begun fellowship groups which often lead outreach efforts in those ethnic communities locally. Our International Fellowships include: Afghan/Iranian/Tajik, African, Arabic, Chinese, Ethiopian, French, Filipino, Japanese, Korean, Latino, Nepalese, Slavic, Vietnamese, and Thai. You can learn more about these groups in our Ministry Directory.
MBC members also lead several outreach ministries serving groups or causes about which they’re passionate—whether adoption and foster care or support packages for troops serving abroad. Check out our Ministry Directory for a full list of our outreach ministries.
If you represent an organization which would like to partner with MBC, please fill out this Local Partnerships Form.
