Survey FAQs

We want to care for our congregation well by building a vision and ministry strategy that reflects who we are. To do that, we need to know our people, and these survey results will help us do that better.

We believe that measurement is important. Like Nehemiah measuring the wall before rebuilding it, or Jesus saying you don’t build a tower before first counting the cost (Luke 14:28), measurement is a biblical principle that we embrace to help us be more effective pastors, leaders, and a church to serve you and the community.

The survey measures how you’re doing and how we’re doing as a church. The survey contains these sections:

  • Seven dimensions of human flourishing, validated through extensive psychological and sociological research. These dimensions help people tell leaders how they are doing and where they need support and help.
  • Fifteen dimensions of church thriving, designed to assess spiritual vitality, relational health, and organizational strength.
  •  A “Leading” section tailored specifically for leaders—staff, church leaders, and volunteers.
  • Basic demographic information.

This survey is part of the Barna ChurchPulse initiative and is grounded in a research-based framework. Based on work from the Harvard Center for Human Flourishing and in collaboration with Barna and Gloo, human flourishing looks at seven dimensions of whole-person health. The 15 dimensions of church thriving help leaders look beyond common lag measures to understand deeper drivers of church health, based on decades of research from Barna Group.

In its nearly 40-year history, Barna Group has conducted more than two million interviews over the course of thousands of studies and has become a go-to source for insights about faith and culture, leadership and vocation, and generations. Barna Group has carefully and strategically tracked the role of faith in America, developing one of the nation’s most comprehensive databases of spiritual indicators.
