Position Description
The Director of Student Ministry at MBC Tysons leads the ministry for middle and high school students (called “The Rock”) at MBC Tysons, MBC’s largest location. The director participates in the development of churchwide strategy for student ministry and leads the implementation of that strategy at MBC Tysons through leading a team of staff and volunteers. MBC’s student ministry programming includes weekly gatherings for students, as well as outreaches and camps. In future years, we hope to add programming that brings families together and equips parents to lead in discipling their teenagers. The director develops the staff and volunteer team and also invests directly in students and parents. The director reports to the Pastor of MBC Tysons and serves on a churchwide student ministry team led by the Central Director of Student Ministry.
The primary responsibilities of the role are:
- To participate in development of a churchwide strategy for student ministry which aligns with the vision and mission of Mclean Bible Church
- To lead the implementation of that strategy at MBC Tysons by leading a team of staff and volunteers
- To recruit, train, direct, evaluate and encourage this ministry team to effectively build up and equip students to be disciples of Jesus Christ who make disciples
- To equip and to assist parents in making disciples who make disciples among our middle and high school students
- To equip and disciple leaders among the students and to encourage them in disciple-making efforts though their lives and in their schools
- To hold accountable our student ministry staff and volunteer base to adhere to safety and security policies that protect minors in our care
- To participate and take on leadership in churchwide student ministry initiatives, such as camps and outreaches, alongside student ministry leaders at the other MBC locations
Qualifications
In addition to the general description above, the future Director of Student Ministry at MBC Tysons will also likely meet the following qualifications:
- A passionate disciple of Jesus Christ who continually seeks to abide in Christ and demonstrates the biblical requirements for leaders
- A proven disciple-maker who, by God’s grace, has made disciples who make disciples
- A spiritually mature leader who demonstrates that maturity in both personal and public life
- A servant leader with a demonstrated ability to lead others sacrificially on mission
- A student of the Bible in agreement with MBC doctrine and teaching
- An effective implementor who can take a vision from concept to reality
- A humble learner who will continually gain insight and develop ways to improve the next generation ministries of the church
- An effective communicator, both a clear writer and a compelling teacher
- Prior experience leading a student ministry preferred
- Advanced theological and biblical training (such as a seminary degree) preferred
- Commitment to a long-term ministry
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
