Montgomery County, Maryland

With a growing population of approximately one million people, Montgomery County – known as MoCo for short – is located immediately adjacent to Washington, DC.  In 2016, separate MBC locations in Silver Spring and Bethesda merged to launch MBC Montgomery County.  The new congregation now meets in a permanent facility in Rockville, which is both the county seat and MoCo’s most populous city.

As one of the most affluent and most diverse counties in the United States, MoCo also has the highest percentage (29.2%) of residents over 25 years of age who hold post-graduate degrees. Just as with other inner-ring suburbs of DC, Montgomery County is home to a number of major U.S. government offices, scientific research facilities, and business campuses.  The largest employers overall include the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services and the U.S. Department of Defense.  The largest private companies in the area include the corporate headquarters of both Marriott International and Lockheed Martin.

Position Description

The Pastor for MBC Montgomery County is responsible for leading the day-to-day ministries of MBC MoCo, championing the relationship between MBC and the MoCo attenders and staff, shepherding the congregations of MBC MoCo through Church Groups and supplemental ministries, and implementing the vision of the church to make disciples and multiply churches across our city.  The buildout of a full team at MBC MoCo may include the hiring and development of an executive admin/location coordinator, a worship director, a children’s ministry director and other key staff roles, all of which would happen under the oversight of the future Pastor for MBC Montgomery County.

Mike Kelsey, one of MBC’s lead pastors and the founding pastor for MBC MoCo, will continue to attend church with his family here and will remain involved in the life of the congregation.  As such, this is a great opportunity to collaborate in a healthy gospel partnership with Mike. The majority of our preaching at MBC is delivered via live stream from our broadcast location, but live preaching at MBC MoCo will primarily be delivered by Mike Kelsey, along with the location pastor and other leaders.  Please consider this unique relationship as you prayerfully evaluate this potential role within the overall pastorate of MBC.
